Female genital mutilation is a very important issue that deserves attention and advocacy, but it also needs to be shown sensitivity. No one is downing Makode Aj Linde’s motives, but this just isn’t right. Most women who have suffered from female genital mutilation would feel uncomfortable (at the least) as oppose to empowered if they were in that room. This is highly insensitive and disappointing. If they were trying to empower women who have suffered from this, they have failed. If they wanted to get female genital mutilation in the news by offending those that have been through it they’ve succeeded.
